WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness and an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. The term may also refer to an art, skill, or act of inducing hypnosis
During hypnosis, a person is said to have heightened focus and concentration. The person can concentrate intensely on a specific thought or memory, while blocking out sources of distraction. Hypnotised subjects are said to show an increased response to suggestions. Hypnosis is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction involving a series of preliminary instructions and suggestion.

Every persons experiences of hypnosis is different and can change from session to session.
Some people have deep levels of trance and experience spontaneous amnesia.
Most people remember everything that happens in hypnosis.
All hypnosis is really self hypnosis although that may not seem apparent when you watch hypnotic entertainment!
You are the one who allows the hypnotic state, the person working with you is simply a facilitator who guides you in what to do. In essence, allowing you to give yourself permission.
Hypnosis happens to us on a daily basis. For example, how many times have you driven down the road, deep in thought, preoccupied in thinking about something? You suddenly snap out of it and realise that you have not seen anything for several blocks and you have arrived at your destination! I like to describe it as a focused daydream. You are so inwardly absorbed, your conscious mind is concentrating and thinking about something. We are so focused on our thoughts that we don’t consciously notice what we are driving past. In this situation, however, another level of our mind that we call the unconscious mind is guiding us along, using the thousands of hours of driving experience that is stored in or memory. It’s like being on automatic pilot. I do have to admit that sometimes I am so absorbed that I miss my turn off!
Watching a good film or being so absorbed in a book can also trigger these trance-like states.
